About

Jae Hee Kim is a Seattle-based costume designer, artist, and educator with extensive experience in theatre and interdisciplinary art.

​

She has designed productions including Murder on the Orient Express and Romeo & Juliet for Harlequin Productions; Time Stands Still, Memoirs of a Forgotten Man, Stand by Lear, and Europe for Thalia’s Umbrella; Guards at the Taj, Snowed In, and An Endless Shirt for ArtsWest Theatre; and Macbeth for Seattle Shakespeare Company.

In addition to her design work, Jae Hee has served as Draper at Seattle Repertory Theatre and Lead Draper at Seattle Opera, collaborating closely with professional costume teams on high-profile productions. She has also taught extensively as full-time faculty at Central Washington University, Eastern Washington University, and Southeast Missouri State University, and as part-time faculty at Seattle Pacific University and the University of Iowa.

Her research and publications have been presented at USITT and the Korean Society of Costume, reflecting her commitment to advancing costume scholarship.

 

Jae Hee’s work has been internationally recognized, with exhibitions at the Cairo Opera House Gallery (Egypt), Seoul Arts Center (Korea), Lao National Museum (Laos), National Science and Technology Museum (Taiwan), The Hague City Atrium (Netherlands), Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery, the University of Iowa Museum of Art, and further more.

She has received numerous awards and fellowships, including the KCACTF Region 7 Meritorious Achievement Award, grants from Central Washington University and the University of Iowa Museum of Art, the Keck Fellowship, and the KCACTF Marvin Sims Design Fellowship for a summer intensive workshop with renowned designers Ming Cho Lee and Constance Hoffman.

Jae Hee is a member of professional organizations including USITT, the Korean Society of Costume, the Korean Fashion and Culture Association, the Korean Society of Basic Design and Art, the National Art Education Association, and the Washington State Art Education Association.
